माध्यमांवरून मिळालेल्या माहितीनुसार, शनिवारी १६ मे रोजी सकाळी मैथिली आपल्या शेताकडील घरी गेली होती. काही वेळानंतर ती घराजवळील झाडाला गळफास लावलेल्या अवस्थेत आढळली. नातेवाईकांनी तिला तत्काळ खाली उतरवून जवळच्या रुग्णालयात नेले, पण डॉक्टरांनी उपचारापूर्वीच मृत्यू झाल्याचे जाहीर केले. तिच्या वडिलांच्या तक्रारीनुसार पोलिसांनी आत्महत्येची नोंद करून तपास सुरू केला आहे.
